Though this book is aimed specifically at, and will be most helpful to, transfer students in the University of California system, the book contains plenty of excellent advice for any high school- or college-level writer looking to improve their personal essay writing skills. Wald is particularly effective at taking actual essays by transfer applicants and offering step by step critique--much like a teacher might do in a classroom--on how the writer should revise. The style of the book is conversational, never preachy, and the use of real people's stories makes this text engaging and even moving."
